Besides viruses and spam, many other aspects, such as hardware and data theft, can disrupt our daily work.

Most of us are familiar with common computer safety terms, such as viruses, worms, Trojans, spam and hack attacks, since they are more or less omnipresent in the media. Other IT security aspects such as equipment and data theft, misuse of data and access information as well as intentional or unintentional copyright violations are perhaps less well-known.

We tend to think along the lines of «that couldn’t happen to us!» or «we don’t have any IT problems and certainly not a security breach!»

However, often sensitive information remains easily accessible to unauthorized persons, and even data misuse or falsification can occur under our very noses. Privacy violations and theft can and do occur as well.
