NAS (Network-drives)

Personal data as well as the groups' public folders and some other resources are being hosted on the central NAS (network attached storage) of the ETH IT Services. It is possible to access these data also from outside ETH, e.g. by mounting the according network drive.

For the instructions on how to mount a network drive please check the follow manual according to your operating system:

Windows
Mac
Linux

Alternatively, it is possible to access data via SSH and/or SFTP by connecting to green-l-portal.ethz.ch. You do not need a VPN connection to do so. It is NOT possible to access data via FTP!

By default, the amount of data on your personal network drive (drive T) is limited to 30 Gb. If you need more than this, contact your IK.

The limitations for group drives etc. are set separately and are being managed by the ISG according to the responsible IK.

Data saved on your personal network share and on your group's network share are backed up automatically by ETH's IT services. It is possible to restore data max. 3 months back.

It is also possible to restore data from so called Snapshots. These are kept for 6 days. Please have a look at the Snapshots section for further information.

The Temp-Share is a network storage and is used to temporarily store files or to share data. It is accessible on \\hest.nas.ethz.ch\green_groups_all_temp for every user, whose group is serviced by the ISG.

The Temp-Share is not a permanent storage! Stored files should therefore be removed after use. Since it is intended for temporary usage, files and folders which were not changed for more than a fortnight will be removed on each 12th of each month.

Important: copying files will not change the “last modified date”, i.e. copied files which are older than 2 weeks will be removed by the next cleaning.
